Greenland halibut

(Reinhardtius hippoglossoides)

Information and Catching area

The greenland halibut is a bottom-dwelling fish that belongs to the flatfish family. It is found at depths of between 600 and 1200 meters. The flesh is firm and fatty which makes it well suited for baking and poaching. The greenland halibut is only found in waters below 4°C. It is usually fished along the edge of the Norwegian continental shelf as far north as Svalbard. At our Partner factory Lofoten Viking we produce HOG (Head on Gutted) between June-August. The rest of the year we offer FAS (Frozen at Sea). We also offer Heads and Tails.
